BOYS’ BASKETBALL ROUNDUP: Mounties top Trojans

Mount Baker boys’ basketball won 69-47 over Meridian on Monday, Dec. 21.

The Mountaineers controlled the court from the onset, ahead by eight at halftime.

Timothy Soares led the game with 27 points and seven rebounds for Mount Baker. Soares’ performance spoke volumes to the ability of his team to succeed this year, Meridian coach Shane Stacy said in a phone interview.

“Timothy Soares for Mount Baker, he’s the real deal,” Stacy said. “I think Mount Baker is the real deal, they will definitely be going deep into the postseason because they have all the pieces.”

Lynden 62, Sequim 18: Christian Zamora had 12 points, Jordan Wittenberg added 10 points, including two 3-pointers, and the Lions cruised to a nonconference victory at home. Connor Shine had four assists in the victory that saw 7-0 Lynden jump out to a 22-0 lead after the first quarter.

Ferndale 52, Marysville-Getchell 49: Austin Honeycutt led Ferndale to victory with 13 points and seven rebounds, Kyler Lagerway had nine points and John Weg earned two 3-point field goals. Garett Holmes scored seven points and earned three assists.

It was fun for a bunch of guys to get to play and different guys doing things.
