For three Whatcom County girls’ basketball seniors, basketball will continue for another week.
On Saturday, March 21, Blaine’s Taylor V’Dovec, Mount Baker’s Emily Yost and Lynden Christian’s Sara Dougan will play in Washington State Girls’ Basketball Coaches Association’s All-State Games.
V’Dovec will play on the Class 2A team going against Yost and Dougan, who will play on the 1A team. The 1A-2A game starts at 4 p.m. at King’s High School. Also playing is the 1B-2B game at 2 p.m. and the 3A-4A game at 6 p.m.
While V’Dovec, who will be attending the Massachusetts Institue of Technology next year, and Yost couldn’t lead their teams to Yakima for the Hardwood Classic, each found success this season. Yost averaged a Northwest-Conference high 20.4 points per game and V’Dovec averaged 9.9 points per game despite not being fully healthy after a toe injury sidelined the four-year star for half the season.
Dougan helped the Lyncs to a fourth-place finish in the Class 1A State Tournament as one of the best passing posts in the state, even recording seven assists in the trophy game. She averaged 9.7 points per game and was the consistent vocal leader for LC. Dougan will play basketball for Biola University next year.
