Lions bump Storm from playoffs

Lynden’s girls’ basketball team earned a regular season-ending win over Squalicum, 46-28, on Tuesday, Feb. 10, at Squalicum in a Northwest Conference game.

The loss eliminated the Storm (9-11, 4-8 NWC) from the postseason, as Sehome and Anacortes each had earned a win to advance to the playoffs.

Lynden (13-7, 9-3) was led by Elisa Kooiman’s 15 points, and Kaityln Mark added 11.

“We were competing in the first for awhile because Lynden didn’t hit many shots, but we went 3 for 24 in the first half,” Squalicum coach Mark Wright said in a phone interview. “In the fourth they rotated some bodies and we got open looks. Lynden was able to defend us and kept our shooting percentage so low we weren’t able to stay in the game.

Squalicum shot just 9 of 48 from the field. Chalae Wolters led the Storm with 10 points.

Lynden takes on Blaine at 7 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 14, at home in a first round game in the Class 2A District 1 Tournament.
