Sehome’s girls’ basketball team played good defense and earned the right to continue into the postseason with a 48-26 win over Bellingham on Tuesday, Feb. 10, at Sehome High School in a Northwest Conference game.
Maddy Bryan led the Mariners (7-13, 4-8 NWC) with 17 points. They advanced to the Class 2A District 1 Tournament thanks to a Squalicum loss, as Sehome owns a tiebreaker over Squalicum.
“I thought we moved the ball really well, almost everyone had opportunities to score,” Sehome coach Kim Kirk said in a phone interview. “Defensively in the second half we did better. We let them get to the line too many times. I thought Sarah (Eisses) played a really good game tonight. She got her hands on boards, but in the second half we did better finding her inside.”
Eisses finished with 10 points and a team-high four rebounds.
Joelle Zamora led the Red Raiders with 11 points in her final game in the red and white. Kirk complemented Zamora’s entire four-year career for Bellingham, saying she ended it with a great night.
Sehome takes on Burlington-Edison at 7 p.m. Satuday, Feb. 14, at Burlington-Edison.
