Golden Eagles fall in regular season finale

Ferndale’s girls’ basketball team hit a bit of a rough patch despite getting 20 points and 18 rebounds from Linsey Honeycutt in a 59-50 loss to Burlington-Edison on Tuesday, Feb. 10, at Ferndale in a Northwest Conference game.

Carly Bannerman added 10 points for the Golden Eagles (17-3, 9-3 NWC). Ferndale awaits results of WesCo 3A games to find out what it’s playoff seeding is, but will play at 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 13, regardless.

“We thought we played good defense, but they hit big buckets on several occasions,” Ferndale coach Mike Ivy said in a phone interview. “It was a good battle. Both teams played hard, in a full-court press. We just came up on the short end.”

Ivy told his team the new season starts tomorrow and it can put this loss and a loss to Lynden Christian last Tuesday behind it.

“We’re practicing hard, but we haven’t been playing real well. We’re looking to change that,” he said.
