Sehome big in second half of 37-30 win

Maddy Bryan scored 17 points for Sehome’s girls’ basketball team in its 37-30 Northwest Conference win against Anacortes on Friday, Feb. 6, at Anacortes High.

Devin Grahn added seven points for the Mariners (6-13 overall, 3-8 NWC). Anacortes (10-9 overall, 4-7 NWC) was led by Hope Hurtado and Brooke Geffe with six points apiece.

“It was our best free throw outing all season. We hit clutch ones at the end of the game,” Sehome coach Kim Kirk said in a phone interview. “It was a slow start to start the game but we got refocused and kids put it all out on the floor.”

Sehome shot 16 for 23 from the free throw line and outscored Anacortes 15-4 in the final frame. With a win in its next game and either a Squalicum or Anacortes loss, the Mariners will secure a playoff spot.

Sehome plays Bellingham next at 7:15 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 10, at Bellingham.
