Somers’ double-double leads Lynden in 60-53 win

After being tied at 41 apiece in the third quarter, Jordan Wittenberg hit a key 3-pointer for Lynden’s boys’ basketball team, which led the rest of the game in its 60-53 Northwest Conference win against Bellingham on Friday, Feb. 6, at Lynden High School.

Sterling Somers led the Lions (16-4 overall, 10-2 NWC) with 21 points and 16 rebounds. Logan Schilder finished with 17 points, and Kalien Hayes had 13 for Bellingham (11-9 overall, 6-6 NWC).

“We were able to make some free throws at the end and our guys found a way to win,” Lynden coach Brian Roper said in a phone interview. “It wasn’t a game with a lot of flow. Both teams played hard.”

Bellingham outscored Lynden 25-15 in the fourth quarter but came up short in the end.

Lynden will play Squalicum next at 7:15 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 10, at home. Bellingham takes on Sehome next at 7:15 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 10, at home.
