Early woes doom Storm girls in loss

The Squalicum girls’ basketball team suffered a 58-32 Northwest Conference loss to Burlington-Edison on Thursday, Feb. 3, at Squalicum High School.

Sarah Hulbert and Chalae Wolters led the Storm with nine points each and Bailey Molnar added six points and eight rebounds in the loss.

Squalicum coach Mark Wright said a 40-15 deficit and committing 20 of the team’s 29 turnovers in the first half didn’t help the Storm’s cause against a solid Burlington-Edison team.

“Burlington came out very motivated to play and they are a fantastic team,” Wright said in a phone interview. “They came at us and we wilted from the pressure in the first half.”

Squalicum hosts Lynden at 7:15 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 10.
