Beard’s buzzer-beater 3 lifts Nooksack Valley to 64-63 win

Connor Beard finished with 22 points for Nooksack Valley’s boys’ basketball team and hit a game-winning 3-pointer in its 64-63 win against Blaine on Thursday, Feb. 5, at Blaine High School.

Josh Gimmaka added 10 points for the Pioneers (2-18 overall, 1-11 NWC). Shaq Woods led the Borderites (5-15 overall, 3-9 NWC) with 28 points and Carson Knutzen had 13.

“Shaq Woods takes up a lot of space. We had trouble defending him so we had to double down from the high post,” Nooksack Vally coach Chris Scrimsher said in a phone interview. “The difference in the game was the 19 turnovers for Blaine and our nine steals. We also shot a high percentage tonight.”

Scrimsher noted the win as a team effort as the team kept its composure and hit shots when needed.
