Emily Yost’s double-double key in Mount Baker’s 54-44 win

Emily Yost ended the game with a 12-point, 18-rebound double-double in the Mount Baker’s girls’ basketball team’s 54-44 win against Squalicum on Tuesday, Feb. 3, at Mount Baker High.

The Mountaineers’ (11-6 overall, 5-4 NWC) Brittany Call contributed 10 points and Emily Brandland had eight. The Storm’s (9-9 overall, 4-6 NWC) Shefka Williams led the team with 10 points and Sarah Hulbert had nine.

“It was senior night and the girls were pumped for that,” Mount Baker coach Brenda Ellis said in a phone interview. “Alyssa Linderman hit two 3s in the second quarter. She is one of our seniors and that was big for us.”

Yost had eight offensive rebounds in the game to go with her 10 defensive boards throughout the game. “She got after it,” Ellis said, “she is a senior and doesn’t want the season to end.”

Mount Baker will take on Lynden Christian next at 7:15 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 5, on the road. Looking to keep its playoff hopes alive.
