Lyncs’ defense stops Pioneers in fourth

Lynden Christian’s girls’ basketball team locked down its defense in the fourth quarter to put away a 44-26 win over Nooksack Valley on Saturday, Jan. 31, at Nooksack Valley.

The Lyncs held the Pioneers to just three points in the game’s final frame.

“It was a physical game,” Nooksack Valley coach Shane Wichers said in a phone interview. “Obviously it was pretty close at halftime (LC 20, Nooksack Valley 15), and they were up eight going into the fourth. They made shots and we didn’t. Both teams battled.”

Kara Bajema led the Lyncs with 14 points. The Pioneers were led by Mariah Perry’s 14 points.

Lynden Christian plays next at 7:15 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 3, at home against Ferndale. Nooksack Valley plays at 7:15 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 3, at Bellingham.
