Lancaster’s big fourth key for Lynden Christian

On a night where Kara Bajema and Sara Dougan only combined for seven points, it was Makayla Lancaster for Lynden Christian’s girls’ basketball team who scored a team-high 16 points in the team’s 42-23 victory over Blaine on Friday, Jan. 30, at Blaine High School.

Taylor V’Dovec of the Borderites led the team with seven points and Breanna Chau added five. Haley Hollander and Sam Van Loo contributed nine points apiece for the Lyncs.

“Our goal was to stop Bajema and Dougan,” Blaine coach Ryan Pike said in a phone interview. “Anytime you hold those two to seven points you think you’re going to win. Lancaster is a great player and came up big in the fourth quarter when they needed it.”

Lancaster scored 12 of her 16 points in the fourth quarter to top off an 18-4 fourth quarter for the Lyncs.

Blaine will take on Meridian next at 7:15 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 3, at home and Lynden Christian plays Nooksack Valley next at 7:15 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 31, on the road.
