Offensive woes hurts Nooksack Valley in loss to Anacortes

The Nooksack Valley girls’ basketball team struggled offensively and suffered a 40-34 Northwest Conference loss to Anacortes on Thursday, Jan. 29, in Everson.

The 34 points was a season low for the Pioneers (11-6, 4-5 NWC). Nooksack Valley was led by Mariah Perry’s 12 points, and Katrina Gimmaka added seven.

“We were down six points with a minute to go and couldn’t get the ball to go into the basket,” Nooksack Valley coach Shane Wichers said in a phone interview. “I thought we were timid offensively, and we weren’t attacking, and the result was we didn’t get very many good looks.”

Besides a 17-point second quarter, the Pioneers scored seven or less points in every other quarter.

Nooksack Valley next hosts Lynden Christian next at 5:15 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 31.
