The Lummi girls’ basketball team jumped out to an early lead and was able to hold off Northwest 1B League rival Tulalip Heritage for a 42-36 win on Thursday, Jan. 29, at Lummi.
“We can take away a lot of confidence with that being a rivalry game and packed on senior night,” Lummi coach Jerome Toby said in a phone interview. “The offense was clicking on all cylinders, and our defensive pressure in the second and third helped us maintain that lead.”
Halle Sturgeon led the Blackhawks with 16 points, and regular leading scorer Treena Humphreys added 15. Toby noted that Sturgeon also helped a lot on defense and rebounding, as well.
“Halle just played remarkable down on the blocks for us,” Toby said. “She got pretty good position on their front court.”
Lummi wraps up its five straight days of games at 5:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 30, with a visit to Highland Christian.
