Mount Baker’s comes up short in 52-49 loss

Mount Baker’s girls’ basketball team’s second-half comeback came up short in its 52-49 loss against Anacortes on Monday, Jan. 26, at Anacortes High School.

The Mountaineers’ Emily Yost led the game with 24 points and Emily Brandland added 18.

“In the first half we were slow footed and looked half a second behind on everything,” Mount Baker coach Brenda Ellis said in a phone interview. “Our offense just wasn’t in sync early on. It took us a while to get going, but it was too little too late.”

After scoring only 13 points in the entire first half, Mount Baker bounced back to score 21 in the third quarter and 15 in the fourth.

The Mountaineers will be back in action against Bellingham next at 7:15 p.m. Friday, Jan. 30, at home.
