Mount Baker’s boys’ basketball team defeated Nooksack Valley in double overtime by a score of 63-59 on Friday, Jan. 23, at Mount Baker High School.
The Mountaineers and the Pioneers were tied at 43 points apiece at the end of regulation.
“We were down by six with a minute to go in the fourth quarter. We were able to come back with a 3-pointer from Colton Ranson with five seconds left and got the stop defensively,” Mount Baker coach Rob Gray said in a phone interview.
One overtime wasn’t enought to decide the game as the two teams were tied at 49 points when time expired.

“In the first overtime we were down early by four points. Fought back to be down two with under 20 seconds left. We got a shot off and Mason Bass got the offensive rebound and put-back to tie it and we got another stop,” Gray said.
In the second overtime, Mount Baker outscored Nooksack Valley 14-10 to clinch the victory. Huge free throws from Keenan Gray at the end sealed the victory for the Pioneers, Gray said.
The Mountaineers improve their record to 6-10 overall and 2-5 in Northwest Conference play. The Pioneers fall to 1-14 overall and 0-7 in Northwest Conference play.
