Balanced Bellingham beats Ferndale

Bellingham’s boys’ basketball team had four players score in double figures in a 67-62 win over Ferndale on Friday, Jan. 23, at Ferndale in a Northwest Conference game.

Kyle Hofstetter led the Red Raiders with 18 points, Dante Check had 14, Austin Shenton added 13 and Kieran Lewis scored 10.

Logan Schilder had just four points, but still scraped together a double-double with 12 rebounds and 10 assists.

“Logan played big. He stayed on the floor and didn’t get in foul trouble,” Bellingham coach Brady McKay said in a phone interview. “He chipped in a few points and made it easy for other guys to score.”

Ferndale was led by Austin Honeycutt’s 21 points and nine rebounds, and John Weg added 18 points. The Golden Eagles were down going into the fourth, but fought back thanks to the Honeycutt-Weg combination, McKay said.

Bellingham plays next at 7:15 p.m. Monday, Jan. 26, at Sedro-Woolley. Ferndale takes on Blaine at 7:15 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 27, at Blaine.
