Ferndale starts hot in 62-32 victory

Several players made an impact during the Ferndale girls’ basketball team’s 62-32 victory over Bellingham on Friday, Jan. 23, at Ferndale High School.

Golden Eagles post Linsey Honeycutt finished the game with 21 points and seven rebounds. Carly Bannerman added 10 points and seven rebounds. Bellingham’s Susie Bennett scored a team-high seven points.

“We really shared the basketball well tonight,” Ferndale coach Mike Ivy said in a phone interview. “Carly had all 10 points in the first quarter. Then Linsey took over and scored 10 points in the third quarter.”

Ferndale’s Shelby Slaughter ended the game with nine points, seven rebounds, four assists and five steals. Ivy said Slaughter was phenomenal throughout the game.

The Golden Eagles will play Blaine next at 7:15 Tuesday, Jan. 27, at home, and Bellingham will play Sedro-Woolley next at 7:15 Monday, Jan. 26, at home.
