Meridian outrebounded in 62-39 loss

The Meridian girls’ basketball team’s struggles rebounding the ball proved to be too much in its 62-39 defeat against Burlington-Edison on Friday, Jan. 23, at Burlington-Edison High School.

Trojans’ Ellesse FitzGerald led the team with 15 points, five rebounds and four assists. Kyrin Baklund added 10 points.

“(Burlington-Edison) is definitely bigger than us,” Meridian coach Mark Gilmore said in a phone interview. “We played a zone, which we don’t do a lot of. We just didn’t block out very well.”

Burlington-Edison outrebounded the Trojans 29-13 throughout the game.

Meridian will play Nooksack Valley next at 7:15 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 27, at home.
