Chalae Wolters scored 28 of 40 points for Squalicum’s girls’ basketball team in its 40-37 victory against Anacortes on Thursday, Jan. 22, at Squalicum High School.
The Storm made six 3-pointers in the game, all of which were made by Wolters. Shefka Williams finished with three points and three Squalicum players contributed two points.
“We pushed out to a lead early. (Anacortes) was playing a zone defense and Wolters knocked down shots from the perimeter,” Squalicum coach Mark Wright said in a phone interview. “There was a strange energy to the game. Neither team seemed like they wanted to take control of what was happening early.”
Squalicum went into the fourth quarter facing a five-point deficit, but was able to outscore the Seahawks 18-10 in the final quarter to pull out the three-point win.

“Chalae with her 28 points and 10 rebounds was big for us tonight. Her amazing ability to hit shots when we had so little output from anyone else. I’ve never seen a game like that,” Wright said. “We did a good job finding her tonight and she did enough to get us a win.”
The Storm will play Sehome next at 7:15 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 27, at home.
