Lynden’s strong third quarter secures victory

Lynden’s boys’ basketball team had a strong third quarter en route to its 57-34 victory against Mount Baker on Tuesday, Jan. 20, at Mount Baker High School.

The Lions’ Jonathan Whetnall led the game with 15 points, Sterling Somers and Jordan Wittenberg had 10 apiece. The Mountaineers’ Colton Ranson led the team with 11 points.

Lynden outscored Mount Baker 23-0 in the third quarter and won the game by 23 points.

“It was a good defensive quarter for us. Our energy and effort was considerably better in the game,” Lynden coach Brian Roper said in a phone interview.

The Lions will face Lynden Christian next at 8 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 22, at home. Mount Baker takes on Nooksack Valley at 8 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 23, at home.
