Honeycutt leads Ferndale girls past Meridian

Linsey Honeycutt had 24 points and 13 rebounds to lead the Ferndale girls’ basketball team to a 51-31 Northwest Conference victory Tuesday, Jan. 20, at Ferndale High School.

“(She’s) unbelievably consistent,” Ferndale coach Mike Ivy said in a phone interview. “She had six offensive rebounds. She averages five so when you average five offensive rebounds you are going to get some points. She just has a sixth sense for where the basketball is going to be and she just goes and gets it. Really fun to watch.”

Ivy also praised the work of guards Abby Reid (11 points) and Darrien Camarillo (four points) for their defensive work on Meridian’s Ellesse FitzGerald, who finished with 13 points and three assists, saying FitzGerald is a tough competitor and kept the Trojans in the game.

Meridian plays at Burlington-Edison at 6 p.m. Friday, Jan. 23, and Ferndale hosts Bellingham at 6:30 p.m. the same night. Both games are NWC contests.
