Meridian struggles to find its rhythm in 61-43 loss

Meridian’s boys’ basketball team couldn’t find its rhythm in its 61-43 defeat against Lynden Christian on Friday, Jan. 16, at Meridian High School.

The Trojans’ Alex Martin led the team with 19 points and seven rebounds. The Lyncs’ Zach Roetcisoender led the game with 22 points.

“Lynden Christian did a great job of forcing us out of our style of play. Forcing us to take quick, low percentage shots and we were unable to get into a rhythm offensively,” Meridian coach Shane Stacy said in a phone interview.

Martin’s consistency all season for Meridian was one aspect of tonight’s game that stuck out to Stacy.

“Alex is doing what he’s been doing all season for us. He’s been very consistent and the rebounding he has been doing is an added bonus,” Stacy said. “We definitely don’t take it for granted around here. He is fun to watch and fun to coach.”

Meridian plays Squalicum next at 7:15 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 19, on the road. Lynden Christian takes on Anacortes next at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 20, at home.
