Storm tops Pioneers on Hulbert’s big shot

Squalicum’s girls’ basketball team avenged a loss against Nooksack Valley with a 56-54 Northwest Conference win on Sarah Hulbert’s game-winning shot Thursday, Jan. 15, at Squalicum.

“Sarah and the rest of the kids just executed,” Squalicum coach Mark Wright said in a phone interview. “We had the ball with 20 seconds left, they executed the play and Sarah hit the shot to win the game.”

Hulbert finished with 15 points for the Storm. Chalae Wolters scored a game-high 21 points, pulled in six rebounds and dished five assists.

“Sarah and Chalae’s offensive kept us in the game,” Wright added. “Our team defense was stupendous. We really figured out our defensive identity.”
