Blaine’s free-throw shooting key in 53-48 win

Blaine’s girls’ basketball team defeated Anacortes 53-48 on Thursday, Jan. 15, at Blaine High School.

The Borderites’ Mikayla Deming and Breanna Chau finished with 12 points apiece.

“We attacked the hoop better in the fourth quarter and our 18-of-22 shooting from the line was a big factor in us winning the game,” Blaine coach Ryan Pike said in a phone interview.

Kiana Gray was a player Pike said came in and got big rebounds in crucial moments. “She came out and propelled us to score consecutive baskets down the stretch,” Pike said.

Blaine will play Bellingham next at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 20, on the road.
