Lions’ inside game fuels win over Cubs

Sterling Somers scored 20 points, Scooter Hastings scored 14 points and grabbed a game-high eight rebounds, and Lynden’s boys’ basketball team rolled to a 76-64 Northwest Conference win over Sedro-Woolley on Thursday, Jan. 15, at Lynden.

Lynden overcame a game-high 25 points from the Sedro-Woolley’s Jackson Price with the strong inside presence of Somers and Hastings.

“In the first half Sedro was on fire from the perimeter,” Lynden coach Brian Roper said in a phone interview. “They have multiple guys who can shoot, but from there it was a game of runs. Our size was our advantage.”

Jonathan Whetnall added 14 points and a game-high five assists for the Lions. Andrew Kivlighn also had 10 points.

“Andrew Kivlighn came off the bench with 10 points and a strong defensive effort for us,” Roper said.

Lynden takes on Ferndale in a make up of a nonleague game at 7:15 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 17, at Lynden.
