Ferndale’s strong start leads to 66-54 win

Ferndale’s boys’ basketball team used a strong first quarter outing in its 66-54 win over Mount Baker on Monday, Jan. 12, at Mount Baker High School.

The Golden Eagles’ Austin Honeycutt finished with 23 points and eight rebounds and Brady Shearer had 19. The Mountaineers’ TJ Bass had 18 points and Timothy Soares contributed 12.

“Brady Shearer came out on fire, it was one of his better games of the season and I was impressed with his leadership on the floor tonight,” Ferndale coach Monte Walton said in a phone interview.

John Weg was another player Walton said contributed offensively for the team.

Ferndale will take on Sehome next at 7:15 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 15, at home. Mount Baker will play Burlington-Edison next at 7:15 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 15, on the road.
