Golden Eagles lock down Storm

Linsey Honeycutt had another double-double and her Ferndale girls’ basketball team locked down on Squalicum’s Chalae Wolters in a 54-38 win for the Golden Eagles on Tuesday, Jan. 6, at Ferndale in a Northwest Conference match-up.

Honeycutt’s 14 points and 10 rebounds were both team-highs for Ferndale (10-1, 2-1 NWC). Things didn’t look good for the Golden Eagles early as they trailed 11-7 after the first quarter.

“We started off kind of slow,” Ferndale coach Mike Ivy said in a phone interview. “I thought (Sydney) Arndorfer played well for Squalicum. She kept them in the game when we held everyone else in check. We put a lot of effort into stopping their freshman (Wolters).”

Ferndale held Wolters to just one point, while Arndorfer picked up the scoring load for the Storm (5-6, 0-3) with 16 points.

Ferndale plays next at 6:15 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 8, at Nooksack Valley. Squalicum’s next game is at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 9, at Bellingham.
