Lynden’s Kooiman has big night in 52-28 victory over Anacortes

Lynden’s girls’ basketball team came off the winter break with the team defensive effort it needed in its 52-28 victory over Anacortes on Tuesday, Jan. 6, at Lynden High School.

The Lions’ Elisa Kooiman led the game with 21 points, 15 rebounds and four assists. Kaitlyn Mark finished with 15 points, all from beyond the arc.

“With the hard non-league schedule we had, we kept harping about defense. It was nice to play bigger schools in the preseason and have a week during Christmas break to prepare for league play,” Lynden coach Rob Adams said in a phone interview. “I’m really happy with the way we played defense tonight.”

Tonight’s game was Kooiman’s best defensive effort of her high school career, Adams said.

Lynden plays Meridian next at 6:15 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 9, at Meridian.
