Blackhawks struggle in halfcourt against Orcas Christian

Lummi’s girls’ basketball team fell 73-17 to Orcas Christian on Tuesday, Jan. 6, at Lummi Nation School.

The Blackhawks were able to beat the full-court press of Orcas Christian, but it was once they got into the half court where things got tougher.

“I was really pleased with our girls looking and identifying traps that we were attacked with last time,” Lummi coach Albert Toby said in a phone interview. “We just had no answers for the half-court press they put on us.”

Halle Sturgeon and Sarah Burke were two standouts for Toby, who said Sturgeon, despite not scoring, rebounded the ball well and Burke played excellent offensively. Burke scored eight points.

Lummi plays Skykomish at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 7, at home.
