Kingma, Montag lead Sehome in NWC victory over Meridian

The Meridian Trojans came out on fire, hitting three of their seven 3-pointers in the first quarter but the Sehome Mariners held it together to earn a 62-51 Northwest Conference victory Monday, Jan. 5, at Sehome High School.

“I think we did a good job (to start the game), stayed calm and stayed with the game plan.” Sehome coach A.J. LaBree said in a phone interview. “(Leighton) Kingma did a nice job with 15 rebounds and 13 points, a nice double double there and (Marcus) Montag had 19 points.”

Alex Martin led Meridian with 21 points and Nick Rautenberg had nine, all from three 3-pointers but Sehome won the turnover battle 23-17 and outrebounded Meridian 35-26.

“We were able to take advantage of some turnovers and that is probably the difference in the score right there,” LaBree said.
