Lions cruise with help from bench

Lynden’s boys’ basketball team overcame early foul trouble to roll to a 67-52 win over Beckman, from Irvine, Calif., Monday, Dec. 29, at the Orange Holiday Classic at Hope International University in Fullerton, Calif.

Sterling Somers led the Lions with 20 points and Andrew Kivlighn added 13. Scooter Hastings also had 11 for Lynden.

“Each of the guys who came in off the bench contributed in a big way,” Lynden coach Brian Roper said in a phone interview. “Caden Lair, Davis Bode, Andrew Kivlighn and Noah King gave us a real spark. Sterling Somers had one of his better games of the year. He was able to have a complete game playing the point for us when our guards were in foul trouble.”

Lair, Bode and King had a combined 14 points in relief of the Lions’ starters.

Lynden takes on Amador Valley High School, from Pleasanton, Calif., at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 30, at the Orange Holiday Classic at Hope International University in Fullerton, Calif.
