Pioneers can’t turn defensive success into points

Nooksack Valley’s boys’ basketball team forced 25 turnovers, but couldn’t capitalize on the offensive end in a 49-32 loss to Kingston on Saturday, Dec. 27, at Crush in the Slush at Port Townsend.

Connor Beard led the Pioneers with 11 points. They shot just 5 of 20 from the free throw line.

“We couldn’t find the basket from any level,” Nooksack Valley coach Chris Scrimsher said in a phone interview. “We charged them to turn the ball over 25 times, and in order to do that we need to put a good amount of pressure on them. Tanner Myhre and Willie Kingma did that. We did a decent job at times defensively, we just couldn’t put a full game together.”

Nooksack Valley nabbed 12 steals, but lost the rebounding battle 43-25.

The Pioneers take on Ferndale at 8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 8, at home.
