Squalicum’s fourth-quarter free-throw shooting aids in win

Squalicum’s boys’ basketball team held off a hot-shooting Toledo to win 60-52 at the SunDome Shootout on Saturday afternoon, Dec. 27, at the Yakima Valley SunDome.

Josiah Westbrook led the Storm with 19 points as the tight game never separated the teams by more than four points until the last four minutes.

“It was a great team effort,” Squalicum coach Dave Dickson said in a phone interview. “They are learning some mental toughness.”

The Storm shot 9 of 11 from the free-throw line in the fourth quarter to get the win, only hours after a triple overtime 61-58 victory against Prairie in a game that started at 9 p.m. the night before.

Squalicum takes a few days off before facing Ferndale on Jan. 5.
