Pioneers’ 22 steals key in victory over Port Townsend

Nooksack Valley’s girls’ basketball team stole 22 passes in its 59-23 victory over Port Townsend on Friday, Dec. 26, at the Crush in the Slush Tournament at Port Townsend.

The Pioneers’ Brianna Turner finished the game with 20 points and Rachel Sande added 10.

“We had good pressure on defense to come up with those 22 steals,” Nooksack Valley coach Shane Wichers said in a phone interview.

Nooksack Valley outscored Port Townsend 24-5 in the first quarter, Turner scored 12 points in the quarter.

Rachel Sande came off the bench and had a career high 10 points, Wichers said.

The Pioneers’ play Friday Harbor next at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 27, at Port Townsend.
