Lions hit stride against Redmond

Lynden’s girls’ basketball team started off a little rusty after missing a day for Christmas, but picked up the pace in the second quarter to cruise to a 54-31 win over Redmond on Friday, Dec. 26, at the Mountlake Terrace Christmas Tournament.

Elisa Kooiman led the Lions with 18 points but it was the early bench play of Lauren Zwiers, Anna Wielenga and Olivia Bonsen that impressed coach Rob Adams.

“The bench did a great job,” Adams said in a phone interview. “This is like the final dress rehearsal before Northwest Conference play.”

After starting the first quarter with only eight points, the Lions tallied 17 in the second, 16 in the third and 13 in the fourth while holding Redmond to single digits in three of the four quarters.

Lynden faces Stanwood on Saturday, Dec. 27, at Mountlake Terrace High School.
