Blaine struggles in early game against Stanwood

Blaine’s girls’ bsaketball team was unable to find its groove in a 57-47 defeat to Stanwood on Saturday, Dec. 20, at Blaine.

The Borderites’ Mandy Hayes led the game with 13 points and Mikayla Deming added 9.

“It was tough to play an early game on Saturday, the energy wasn’t there as much,” Blaine coach Ryan Pike said in a phone interview.

Blaine turned the ball over 29 times on offense, 17 of them steals by Stanwood. But Pike still takes the game as a positive for his team.

“We’re getting better one game at a time, hopefully in a couple weeks we’ll be playing at our best,” Pike said.

Blaine takes on White River next at 3 p.m. Monday, Dec. 29, at Lynden Christian in the Cloud 9 Christmas Classic.
