Meridian’s freshman carry team to 48-40 victory

Meridian’s girls’ basketball team defeated Bellingham 48-40 with the help of its freshman on Friday, Dec. 19, at Meridian.

The Trojans’ Kyrin Baklund scored 14 points and Ellese FitzGerald added 11. Bellingham’s Joelle Zamora scored a game-high 20 points.

“Our freshman Baklund and FitzGerald had a good game tonight,” Meridian coach Mark Gilmore said in a phone interview. “The two freshman picked it up and carried the team.”

Meridian takes on Granite Falls next in the Meridian Holiday Tournament on Friday, Dec. 26, at home.
