Brandland, Yost combine for 54 in Baker blowout of Sedro-Woolley

Mount Baker’s girls’ basketball team buckled down on defense and held Sedro-Woolley to 43 points on 15-of-44 shooting in a 76-43 win on Thursday, Dec. 18, at Mount Baker.

“We’ve been unhappy with how we played defensively lately, so we came out and played solid defense from the start,” Baker coach Brenda Ellis said in a phone interview. “We got a lot of touches on the ball, created turnovers. We pressed most of the game, and they scored 16 when we backed off in the fourth.”

Emily Brandland and Emily Yost led the Mountaineers with 27 points each, and Kylee Engholm added 15.

“Kylee had three 3-pointers and she was getting pressured the whole game,” Ellis said. “She’s done well handling that pressure up top.”

Baker plays next in the Cloud 9 Christmas Classic Monday, Dec. 29, at Lynden Christian.
