Red Raiders overcome injuries in win over Meridian

Bellingham’s boys’ basketball team overcame another injury to one of its starters to take a 52-40 win over Meridian on Thursday, Dec. 18, at Bellingham.

After Kalien Hayes went down with a sprained ankle early, the Red Raider bench stepped up, coach Brad McKay said in a phone interview.

“Nate Pearsall had two huge threes and did a good job filling in in a position he doesn’t usually find himself in,” McKay said.

Logan Schilder led Bellingham with 17 points and 13 rebounds, both team-highs. The Red Raiders dominated the boards with a 40-22 rebounding advantage.

Alex Martin led the Trojans with 21 points. Meridian committed just eight turnovers to Bellingham’s 16.

Bellingham plays next at 7:15 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 20, at Marysville-Getchell. Meridian hosts Lummi at 7:15 p.m. Monday, Dec. 22.
