Blaine falls to Burlington-Edison 66-54

Second-chance points were the difference of the game in Blaine’s 66-54 defeat against Burlington-Edison on Thursday, Dec. 18, at Burlington-Edison High School.

The Borderites’ Mandy Hayes finished the game with 23 points and Mikayla Deming added 9. Burlington-Edison’s Edie Breckenridge had 21 points in the game.

“I thought we played well, we just had too many turnovers,” Blaine coach Ryan Pike said in a phone interview. “They had 21 offensive rebounds and capitalized.”

Blaine was down 14 points in the first half and cut Burlington-Edison’s lead to only one point with a minute to go in the first half, Pike said.

“Burlington is a good team. We battled hard and I’m proud of our players,” Pike said.

The Borderites play Stanwood next at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 20, at home.
