Blaine survives Squalicum comeback with overtime win

Blaine’s girls’ basketball team overcame a Squalicum comeback in a 60-58 overtime victory on Monday, Dec. 15, at Blaine High School.

The Borderites’ Mandy Hayes led the team with 19 points and Breanna Chau added 13, Squalicum’s Chalae Wolters led the game with 26 points.

“We got out early on them and had a 13 point lead in the second half. They just kept battling back on us,” Blaine coach Ryan Pike said in a phone interview. “It was good to see the heart our team had to keep battling,” Pike said.

The Borderites take on Burlington-Edison next at 7:15 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 18, at Burlington-Edison and Squalicum will play Lynden Christian at 7:15 on Thursday, Dec. 18, at home.
