High School Basketball

Coach: AJ Labree

Last year: Finished tied for second in the Northwest Conference with a 9-3 record. ... Ended season after losing in the opening round of the Class 2A State Tournament and finished 17-8 overall.

Players to watch: Tanner Clark (sr., G); Leif Anderson (sr., G); Duncan James (sr., F); Elijah Andrushenko (sr., G/F); Sam Carroll (sr., F)

Outlook: The Mariners return after reaching the regional round of the Class 2A State Tournament, and they bring a wealth of experience. Nine seniors grace Sehome’s roster, and coach Labree has one of his deepest teams in recent memory. The graduation of Evan Miksovsky is a tough void to fill, but the Mariners collectively can fill it. “We have so many guys that can do a lot of things for us on any given night,” Labree said in a phone interview. “We could have a different leading scorer every night, so it’s a total team effort this year.” Labree raved about how unselfish his group is, and it begins with the starting backcourt of seniors Clark and Anderson. Anderson (13.0 points per game) is a perimeter threat, and Clark (10.3) can score and is a strong facilitator. Big men James (6.6), Andrushenko (4.4) and Carroll (3.3) are a few of the top frontcourt players in a nine-man rotation that could go as deep as 13, Labree said. “We have high goals, and set really high goals as a team,” Labree said, “but we realize the NWC is just loaded this year with great teams and great athletes, so we are playing one game at a time.”
