The Bellingham girls’ basketball team scored nearly half its points in the four quarter to earn its first win of the year, a 44-40 non-conference road victory over Marysville-Pilchuck on Friday, Dec. 12.
The Red Raiders got some easy baskets early on and sealed the game late with clutch free throws. After scoring 24 points through the first three quarters, the Red Raiders scored 20 in the fourth.
Joelle Zamora led Bellingham with 14 points, and Emily Benson chipped in 13.
“Both have been really consistent players for us,” Red Raiders coach Ed Wissing said in a phone interview. “Joelle played strong inside-outside, and Emily, likewise, she faced a lot of pressure and kept her composure, and she had to sink a lot of free throws.”
Bellingham (1-4) opens up conference play next with a road game against Lynden Christian at 7:15 p.m. Monday, Dec. 15.
