Coach: Brett Farrar
Last year: Finished tied for second in the Northwest Conference with a 9-3 record. ... Ended season after going 1-2 in the 2A District 1/2 Tournament and finished 14-7 overall.
Players to watch: Jackson Price (sr., G); Mason Elms (sr., G); Anthony Cann (sr., G); Will Enniss (jr., G); Chad Wilburg (sr., F)
Outlook: Coach Farrar can’t help but notice an extra energy permeating throughout Sedro-Woolley’s gym after the football team, which has several athletes who play basketball, won the Class 2A state championship last weekend. The big win has shortened the Cubs’ practice time as they prepare for the season, but Sedro-Woolley brings back a wealth of experience. “I think success breeds success,” Farrar said in a phone interview, “especially in the school system. Every sport is different, but you can kind of see an aura around our guys. Their chests are puffed out a little bit, and it’s rubbing off on the other guys on the squad.” One returning player who has plenty of confidence already is returning all-Northwest Conference MVP Price, whose 27.1 points per game last season led the league. In fact, Farrar said Sedro-Woolley returns 95 percent of last year’s scoring. Other key returners include Elms (9.6), Cann (7.3), Enniss (7.1) and Wilburg (4.4).
