Coach: Shane Stacy
Last year: Finished seventh in the Northwest Conference with a 6-6 record. ... Ended season after going 0-1 in the 1A tri-district Tournament and finished 12-12 overall.
Players to watch: Alex Martin (sr., G); Kyle Young (sr., F); Nick Rautenberg (sr., F)
Outlook: Meridian is trying to catch its breath after playing six games over a 10-day period. Playing a game every other day hasn’t allotted much practice time, but Stacy can’t be mad with where the Trojans are at, being undefeated to start the year. “I definitely don’t think I would schedule this many games this early in the season again,” Stacy said in a phone interview. “Practices have been few and far between, but in the games our guys have done a great job.” That may be due to the fact the Trojans own a nine-man roster complete with six seniors and three juniors. Meridian has some talented players returning, but Martin will be the player most teams game-plan for. The second-team all-NWC selection led the team in scoring (14.8 points per game), and senior forward Young (9.0) is a strong complement in the post. Stacy said he wants his team to get back to the swarming style of defense it played last winter, and at practice the Trojans are looking to improve in a different aspect each day. Brady Moore, Daniel Young and Rautenberg should also be key contributors.
