Coach: Roger DeBoer
Last year: Finished tied for second in the Northwest Conference with a 9-3 record. ... Ended season after going 0-1 in the 1A Tri-District Tournament and finished 17-8 overall.
Players to watch: Zach Roetcisoender (jr., G); Cody Fransen (sr., G); Jake Poag (jr., G); Jake Van Berkum (sr., G); Josiah Meppelink (jr., G)
Outlook: Great kids, team chemistry and overall depth are three key aspects DeBoer loves about this year’s Lyncs. While the first two shouldn’t be overlooked, the team’s depth could really benefit Lynden Christian. Last year DeBoer said he felt the physical toll the Lyncs took during the Northwest Conference schedule left the team beat down when the postseason began. “We want to embrace that part, that we have good depth,” DeBoer said in a phone interview. “We want to use a lot of people.” Graduated senior Grant Wolffis is a significant loss, and LC lost a lot of size with Josh Hornstra and Logan Carlson, but LC brings back five of last season’s top eight players. Leading scorer and first-team all-NWC selection Roetcisoender (14.1 points per game) is back, as is Fransen (5.6), sharp-shooting Poag (7.5), Van Berkum (3.5) and Meppelink (3.5). Forwards Koy Sterk, Josh Heutink and Lucas Roetcisoender make up an LC frontcourt that will have to be especially active on the boards.
