Coach: Brett Senff
Last year: Won a Northwest Conference title with a 10-2 record. ... Went 3-1 during the 2A District 1/2 Tournament, placed third at the Class 2A State Tournament and finished 21-6 overall.
Players to watch: Ty Johnson (sr., G); Jordan Neville (sr., G); Joe D’Amelio (sr., G); Daniel McInerney (sr., G)
Outlook: The Seahawks have established themselves as a true power not only in the Northwest Conference but on the state level, playing for a state championship two years ago before reaching the semifinals last season. With four starters back from last year’s squad, all indications point to Anacortes having the capability of generating another special season. “Our experience is our strong point with, our four starters coming back being seniors,” Senff said in a phone interview. “That is huge for us, because the league is so tough. They are blue-collar workers. They work hard all the time and play unselfish.” Those returning starters include first-team all-NWC selection Johnson (16.7 points per game), who is recovering from a knee injury sustained during football, Neville (9.3), D’Amelio (11.3) and McInerney (3.2). Senff placed an emphasis on defensive commitment as one one of the team’s keys to success, and he also likes how unselfish the group is, which is evident in the team’s strong shot selection early on.
