Ivory’s layup in final seconds gives Ferndale 1-point win over Blaine

Ferndale’s Malik Ivory made a driving layup with 14 seconds to go and held off Blaine in the final seconds to take a 59-58 win on Tuesday, Dec. 9, at Ferndale.

The Golden Eagles were led by Austin Honeycutt’s 21 points and 10 rebounds. Anthony Ball and Shaq Woods led Blaine with 12 points each.

“Honeycutt was a workhorse for us again inside,” Ferndale coach Monte Walton said in a phone interview. “I think the difference was when it came to the end, our pressure defense helped us. Getting 21 in the first quarter, we got off to another good start. We were pretty patient at the end.”

Woods also had 10 rebounds to lead Blaine before fouling out. Ferndale won the turnover battle, 14-8.

Ferndale will play Sedro-Woolley next at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 16, at Ferndale and Blaine will play Port Townsend next at 7:15 p.m. Friday, Dec. 12, at Port Townsend.
