Schilder leads Red Raiders past Pioneers in boys basketball

The Bellingham boys’ basketball team used a strong second half to earn a 64-41 victory at home Monday, Dec. 8, over Nooksack Valley.

Bellingham coach Brad McKay said once the Red Raiders worked out some problems such as defensive strategy and feeding the post, they started rolling, scoring 41 of their 64 points.

“After halftime, we did a much better job of getting the ball to Logan (Schilder, who had 16 points and 10 rebounds) and it opened the rest of the floor,” McKay said in a phone interview. “We were really able to put together a good second half and put them away.”

Kalien Hayes had 13 points for the Red Raiders, and Dante Check added 12 points and five assists.

Connor Beard had 19 points for Nooksack Valley, and Josh Gimmaka had 12 points and seven rebounds.

The Pioneers have a 7:15 p.m. game at Meridian on Thursday, Dec. 11, and the Red Raiders have a 7:15 p.m. game at Mount Baker on Friday, Dec. 12.
